Payangadi
Payangadi, the verdant paradise, overflows many natural splendors, mountains and valleys, lush paddy fields and lazy lagoons, hauntingly beautiful beaches and back waters generous yields of paddy wealth and rich harvest coconuts.Payangadi is located in Cannanore district which is in the northern part of Kerala. The village is surrounded by the Ezhimala (seven hills) and the Arabian Sea. Ezhimala is now taken over by the Naval Academy. There is an ancient mosque at the top most of the hills that was built at the beginning of 1950.
The people on the banks of Payangadi Puzha are generally peace loving and follow a neat and healthy lifestyle. Their dressing is immaculate, usually spotless whites. They keep their dwellings and surroundings very clean. The food mainly consists of rice and fish. Fish is a very important item in their menu for lunch and dinner. 'Chembally and “Thiruda” are available as special gift of the backwaters, but are expensive.
The Muslims, here known as Mappilas, are the first largest community in this village. The village has the unique distinction of having high family of Bilavinakam, Mailangikal, Saithumadam etc. Muslims played an important role in the Islamic history of the village
Though Christians are believed to have migrated from Cochin and Travancore. They have made significant contribution to the development of pisciculture culture in the village.
Mattool, Muttam and Puthiyangadi, our neighboring villages described as Mini Persian Gulf. 70% of the population depend on gulf money. And no matter what the village people worship, they have a very good knowledge about Marxian theory and they strongly believe in Marxism
